Collection Statement

MONO features only a singular wood species to make each individual piece of wood mosaic art. This collection explores different wood types which allows the artist and the viewer to experience the different woods together. The natural beauty of each wood is showcased with simple shapes, clean lines, and giving the viewer the opportunity to see nature in a new way.  Each piece has a contemporary vibe with its asymmetrical arrangements and changing depths.

FROM THE ARTIST…

As the artist, I wanted to discover new woods that I hadn’t used before. It started when I found a small scrap piece of IROKO at my lumber supplier “just to see” what it was like, as I had never heard of it before.  I enjoyed the transformation so much, I wanted to do more…and so I made an entire collection!  Not only did I discover a whole variety of grains, textures and natural patterns…I also found a wide spectrum of natural colors! Each piece in the collection is finished with only the natural color of the wood being used.  I enjoyed the challenge of only working with one wood and the freedom of working with nature in a more modern way.

Artist Bio

Wood is a dynamic medium.  By using it as the base for my art it offers many opportunities to influence it in color, shape, and texture.  Each piece is unique to themselves and usually part of a themed collection.  Pieces incorporate 3-dimensional carved wood, meticulously sanded to be realistic floral representations, or incorporated into a mosaic pattern.

My journey to wood art started when I was young, working with my dad in his shop.  Once I became a homeowner, my skills with power tools and wood grew, and I decided to incorporate wood décor into my business, Mandy’s Handmade.  My vision with creating a more intricately detailed and visually interesting wood art is to challenge myself to hone my skills even further with wood.  I inspire my audience to appreciate the unique woodworking techniques and style I bring that is not in typical retail settings.  I want them to bring a cherished piece of art into their life, making their home as original as each piece.
