Each year the Brookings Arts Council provides a $500 scholarship to a Brookings county high school senior that is interested in pursuing the arts post graduation. We match your donations in hopes our students know their community is behind them in their efforts to create a more artful and creative world.
Applications for 2024 are now closed, and will reopen next spring for 2025.

In honor of the late Bob Semrad's profound dedication to the arts and his unwavering commitment to community, we proudly introduce the BAC Semrad Art Scholarship. This scholarship, named in honor of Bob's enduring legacy, is dedicated to supporting the artistic aspirations of high school seniors poised to embark on their journey in higher education.
Bob Semrad was not only a cherished member of our community but also an incredibly prolific artist whose passion for creativity knew no bounds. His artistic journey was one of lifelong learning and exploration, which began with his pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Arts from South Dakota State University, followed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts from SDSU’s School of Design. Throughout his retirement years, Bob immersed himself in various mediums, from watercolors to sculpture to egg shell mosaic to bronze casting and everything in between.
The Semrad Art Scholarship aims to nurture and empower the next generation of artistic talent, reflecting Bob's belief in the transformative and playful power of the arts. High school seniors who share Bob's excitement for artistic expression and experimentation and are committed to pursuing further education in the arts are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be evaluated based on their artistic merit, dedication to their craft, and potential to make a positive impact through their artwork.
Through the Semrad Art Scholarship, we honor Bob's enduring legacy as an artist and advocate for the arts, ensuring that his passion for creativity continues to inspire and uplift future generations of artists.
